About The Wood Project

The Wood Project was founded on a passion for fine craftsmanship, traditional woodworking skills, and a belief that quality timberwork should stand the test of time.

With over 35 years of experience working with timber, we specialise in creating custom timberwork for heritage homes and exceptional interiors. From bespoke furniture and handcrafted kitchens to heritage joinery restoration, custom mouldings, architectural turnings and one-off timber components, every project is approached with care, precision and attention to detail.

What sets The Wood Project apart is the breadth of traditional woodworking skills we bring to each project. Alongside modern workshop machinery, we utilise traditional techniques and hand tools to reproduce historic timber details, match existing mouldings, create architectural turnings and restore character features that might otherwise be lost.

We regularly work with homeowners, builders, architects, designers and developers on projects ranging from individual furniture commissions through to heritage restorations and architectural renovations. Whether creating something entirely new or reproducing a piece of history, our goal remains the same — to produce exceptional timberwork that enhances the spaces people live in and will be appreciated for generations.

Based in New Plymouth and working with clients throughout New Zealand, The Wood Project combines traditional craftsmanship with practical experience to deliver timberwork that is both beautiful and enduring.

From heritage mouldings and architectural turnings to bespoke furniture and handcrafted kitchens, we enjoy the projects that require creativity, craftsmanship and problem-solving. The work that can't simply be ordered from a catalogue is often the work we enjoy most.
